Backyard Space connects owners of sports, prestige, classic, collector and exotic cars with owners and operators of secure, unused storage space across Australia. That is the whole business. We are not trying to also do commuter parking, caravans, boats or boxes.
Why this exists
Two problems sit next to each other in every Australian city and rarely meet. Someone owns more cars than their home can securely hold. Someone else owns a garage, a shed, a workshop bay or a corner of a warehouse that is doing nothing.
General parking marketplaces solve a different problem — a bay for a day, near a station. Peer-to-peer storage marketplaces solve another one — somewhere to put a couch. Neither was designed for a car that is worth more than the building it is parked in, needs a battery maintainer, must stay dry for eight months, and whose owner would like to know the address is not published on the internet.
Where we are now
Early. We are verifying our first spaces and talking to the first vehicle owners. Rather than publish an empty search page, the site is built to be useful before the marketplace is full: you can tell us what you need and we will contact you when a verified space that suits it exists near you.
The listings on this site are labelled samples. They exist to show how a real space will be presented, and they cannot be booked. When real inventory replaces them, the labels come off.
What we are not
We are not an insurer, a storage operator, a transport company or a broker of vehicle sales. We are the layer that makes it reasonable for two strangers to agree that one will keep the other's car for a year.

Four principles we will be judged against.
Quality over count
We would rather have one hundred excellent verified spaces than ten thousand questionable ones. Every product decision — verification, grading, moderation, the three-month minimum — costs us listings on purpose.
Say only what is true
We do not claim insurance we do not have, inventory we have not verified, or reviews nobody wrote. Sample listings are labelled as samples. If something is not connected yet, the site says so.
Privacy is a security feature
Publishing the address of a garage containing a valuable car is a security failure, not a convenience. Addresses, registrations, values and access details stay private until there is a reason to release them.
The host stays in control
Hosts set their own minimum term, rules and access arrangements, and can decline any request for any lawful reason. A marketplace that pressures hosts into accepting cars they are uneasy about is not building trust.
Exceptional cars deserve exceptional storage — and the people who own suitable space deserve to earn from it.
