Why host with Backyard Space
Your address stays private
Suburb and an approximate area only, until a booking is confirmed. The real coordinates never reach the browser.
You choose who stores with you
You see the vehicle, the owner and the requested period before accepting. Decline without explanation.
Long-term, not casual
Three-month minimum, six and twelve common. One arrival, one departure, monthly income in between.
Four stages, about ten minutes of your time.
Tell us about the space
Location, type, capacity and measured dimensions. Ten minutes, and you can save and come back.
Show us the security
Photographs and a short checklist. We verify what we can evidence and publish only that.
Set your terms
Your monthly price, your minimum term, your access rules, your house rules. You are not told what to charge.
Get verified and listed
We review, grade the space and publish it. You keep the right to decline any request, for any lawful reason.
What we can list — and what we can't.
The space needs to be secure, enclosed or genuinely undercover, on a hard surface, and yours to offer. If it is somewhere you would happily leave your own car for a year, it is probably right.
Private lock-up garage
A standalone lock-up you do not use, or use for something that could move.
Large residential garage
A double or triple garage with a bay permanently spare.
Secure private property
A gated property with enclosed, hard-standing space.
Gated compound
Fenced, gated, monitored — undercover bays preferred.
Commercial warehouse
Spare floor area in a secure building, often the strongest listings we see.
Small industrial unit
A unit sitting empty between tenancies or used for storage.
Prestige workshop
A specialist workshop with a secure rear bay that is rarely full.
Dealership capacity
Secure yard or building space that is not working hard enough.
You set the price. We will not invent an income figure for you.
Backyard Space is pre-launch. An income headline published today would be marketing rather than data, so we are not publishing one.
What we will do is show you the going rate as soon as we have real bookings to draw it from: what comparable spaces near you are achieving, at what grade, on what terms. Until then, the grade table below is our honest estimate of the market.
Indicative monthly ranges
Our estimate for Australian capital cities. Planning guide only — not quoted prices.
Adding power, a maintainer and a monthly photo report is usually the cheapest way to move a listing up a grade — and up a price band.
The things hosts ask before they start.
Does it cost anything to list?
No. Listing and verification are free. Backyard Space is paid a service fee on successful bookings only — if your space is not earning, neither are we.
How much could I earn?
We are not going to publish an income figure we cannot support. Backyard Space is pre-launch and has no booking history, so any such number would be invented.
What we can tell you is the shape of the market: Private-grade lock-ups generally advertise in the $250–$420 per month range in Australian capital cities, Premium enclosed space with cameras, alarm and power in the $380–$650 range, and specialist facilities above that. You set your own price, and once real bookings exist we will show you what comparable spaces near you are actually achieving.
Who decides who stores with me?
You do. Every Request to Store shows you the vehicle, the requested period and any special requirements before you accept. You can decline for any lawful reason and you do not have to explain yourself.
Will my address be published?
No. Search and listing pages show your suburb and an approximate area only. The map shows a circle, not a pin, and the coordinates in the page are deliberately offset from your real location. Your exact address is released only to the specific owner on a confirmed booking, and every release is logged.
What about council, strata, lease or insurance requirements?
Offering space commercially can engage planning, council, strata, lease and insurance requirements, and these vary by state, council and property. You are responsible for confirming your own position, and you will be asked to confirm in writing that you have the right to offer the space. We cannot give you legal or planning advice.
Can I stop hosting?
Yes. You can pause a listing at any time so it stops receiving requests. Existing bookings run to the end of their agreed term — an owner has planned around that space, and that is the deal both sides made.
Ready when you are.
You can start the listing now and finish it later — every step saves as you go.
