A checklist, honestly applied.

Verification is the difference between a marketplace and a classifieds page. Before a space publishes we review it against defined criteria in four areas, and we display only the features we could evidence.

Read this first. BackyardSpace Verified means we have reviewed specified information against defined criteria at a point in time. It does not guarantee that a space is safe, secure or in any particular condition, it does not make Backyard Space responsible for a host's space, and it is not insurance. Owners should inspect a space and satisfy themselves before storing a vehicle.

Property

Space type: Private garage, lock-up, large residential garage, warehouse, industrial unit, commercial garage, secure compound or specialist facility
Enclosure: Indoor, fully enclosed, undercover or open — recorded exactly, not approximated
Tenure: Evidence the host owns the property or holds the right to sublet or licence it
Suitability: Surface, drainage, headroom and manoeuvring room appropriate to the grade

Security

Cameras: Presence, coverage and whether footage is recorded or live-only
Alarm: None, local alarm, or monitored alarm with a monitoring provider
Entrance: Gated, keyed, swipe, remote or supervised — and who else holds access
Lighting & personnel: Security lighting, on-site personnel, visitor restrictions

Vehicle protection

Weather: Fully undercover, enclosed building, and how the space performs in rain
Floor: Concrete, sealed, dust control, and whether the surface marks tyres
Power: Availability of a power outlet and whether a battery maintainer is permitted
Clearance: Measured length, width, height and entrance opening — not estimated

Documentation

Identity: Host identity verified before a listing publishes
Authority: Written confirmation of the right to offer the space, and acknowledgement of responsibility for property, strata, planning, council, lease and insurance requirements
Photos: Photographs checked for consistency with the described space
Rules & contact: Storage rules supplied in writing, emergency contact on file

Storage grades

Three grades, computed — not chosen.

A host cannot award themselves Premium. Grades are calculated from the criteria we were able to evidence, so a grade means the same thing on every listing.

Private

A secure private residential garage suitable for long-term prestige vehicle storage.

PREMIUM Verified

Premium

An enclosed facility with materially stronger security and power available at the space.

Everything in Private
At least three of: CCTV, alarm, gated entrance, controlled access, security lighting, restricted visitors
Power available at the bay
Measured clearance dimensions on file

VAULT Verified

Vault

A high-security specialist or commercial vehicle-storage facility with vehicle-care services.

Everything in Premium
Monitored alarm or on-site personnel
At least two vehicle-care services offered
Commercial insurance evidence held on file

BackyardSpace Vault is separate from the grades. It marks a facility we operate or have directly approved, and it appears as its own plate on the listing. The first is planned for Sydney.

Nothing here is designed to be difficult. It is designed so that the owner of a car worth more than your car feels able to leave it with you.
